Hudson River ParkThere are many opportunities to view the race from various Spectator Vantage Points around Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Islands of New York Harbor and New Jersey shores. Some of the best action can be seen up close in Hudson River Park.

This year, New York Outrigger has set up official Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge Viewing Stations in Hudson River Park at Pier 25 and Pier 62 on Saturday, June 23. Look for race flags and banners at the ends of the pier and visit each welcome tent to get more information about the Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge. We will have spotters at the end of each pier to identify the crews paddling by. Get close to the action and cheer on your favorite teams. They will definitely love to hear your support!


Pier 25

Catch the paddlers at the three-mile mark after they pass through the tricky waters of the Battery. You will still see the canoes in fairly close proximity jockeying for position as they settle into their race pace for the section up the Hudson River. While the women’s and men’s crews continue up the Hudson, you will be able to watch the mixed crews make their turn at the Holland Tunnel.

Pier 25Estimated time the canoes will be passing by:

  • Women’s Race: 8:20AM to 8:45AM
  • Men’s Race: 11:50AM to 12:15PM
  • Mixed Race: 2:50PM to 3:15PM

Pier 25 is Hudson River Park’s longest pier. It is located in Manhattan’s Tribeca District at the end of North Moore Street, The pier features such amenities as an 18-hold miniature golf course and snack bar, sand volleyball courts, children’s playground, historic ship Lilac, a skate park and artificial turf lawn for active and passive use. Pier 62

Pier 62 marks the five-mile mark for the women’s and men’s race. The crews will be settled into their race pace. At this point, it is all about endurance in order to maintain their position as they prep for the race turn to cross the Hudson River to the New Jersey side. Canoes may be spaced further apart but don’t be surprised if you see two or three canoes battling it out right in front of you. Be sure they hear you cheering. It will inspire them to give a little extra power.

  • Women’s Race: 8:45AM to 9:30AM
  • Men’s Race: 12:15PM to 1:00PM

Pier 62 is located in Manhattan’s Chelsea district at the end of West 22nd and West 23rd streets. This pier includes a stunning entry garden, large areas of grass for relaxing, a carousel based on animals from the Hudson River Valley and a California-style skatepark.
